Netflix original series Abstract: The Art of Design premiered on February 10, 2017. First season profiled illustrator Christoph Niemann, Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, stage designer Es Devlin, architect Bjarke Ingels, automotive designer Ralph Gilles, graphic designer Paula Scher, photographer Platon, and interior designer Ilse Crawford. Netflix announced that the series had been renewed for a second season, which was released on September 25, 2019. While the series has its highs and lows, it is most definitely one to watch. Most of the artists do produce interesting work, but some episodes disappoint.
The final episode was certainly a risk for the creators of “Abstract,” but not one that paid off. The challenge of this format is to encapsulate the essence of one person and their whole body of work in forty minutes.
